My life without wheat & dairy
Posted on August 18th, 2010
It’s been five or six days since I gave up wheat and dairy. I have cheated to the extent I’ve had chocolate (with milk as an ingredient) almost every day.
And I’ve lost 3.5 pounds.
I only feel truly mournful when I walk through the bakery section of the grocery store or walk past any of the (abundant) craft bakeries/cupcake shops in my neighborhood. I snack on unsalted peanuts mixed with dried cranberries. I’ve made a lot of strawberry/peach/blueberry smoothies (with apple juice & soymilk). Breakfast is usually eggs or Cheerios or a handful of peanuts/cranberries. Last night’s dinner was quinoa, black beans, salsa, and avocado, and I could probably eat that every day for years. (Bear in mind, though, I think black beans, rice, and salsa is the best food ever.)
My biggest adjustment was suddenly eating so much more fiber than I’m used to. It was – ah- a little uncomfortable for a day or so.
