Excuse me while I tempt fate

More or less, P seems to be settling down. The stuttering that accompanies her developmental leaps is vanishing, she’s happier, her syntax is more sophisticated, and she is getting better at keeping it together longer. (That is a lame phrase, but it’s the best I can come up with.) I even got a spontaneous “I love you, Mommy” today. (Fortunately, it was after I was over being body slammed.)
One of the more useful things I got out of the “Raising Your Spirited Child” book was an analogy for how kids’ brains develop. Imagine they have five blocks, and a new block is going to be added. Instead of just being dropped onto the top, the entire block structure gets torn down and rebuilt in a different shape. So these periods where my kid just completely falls apart all of a sudden make a lot more sense.
In other news, I still desperately need time away from parenting. I’m starting to suspect that will only happen if I start going to the gym, so…. I think I’m going to start going to the gym.
