Good news, bad news
The Attorney At Large

Good news: I had a nap!
Bad news: So did P. She’s been out for four hours and WILL NOT WAKE UP. (It’s almost 4.)
Worse news: We can probably expect she’ll stay up ’til midnight now.
UPDATE: I had her help me vacuum, took her on a walk up (the stairs) to the seventh floor and around on the roof, and she voluntarily chose to put on her PJs. This night may be salvaged.
What happens if you try to wake her? Is it a trait of spirited kids that they tend not to develop sleep patterns (or tend not to be able to)?
There is no waking this kid up when she needs the sleep. I can pick her up, put her on the potty and get her back into bed without her being really awake. The big challenge is getting her to sleep before being completely exhausted – teaching her to calm her body down, that sort of thing. (I was the same way as a kid, and M apparently fought sleep like it was a mortal enemy.)
It is a trait of some spirited kids to be irregular in their sleep patterns (my sister keeps hers on a strict schedule), and while we do our best to regulate her, in the winter with all the artificial light it’s hard. (And in the summer at this latitude, we have to work at making it dark early.)
that’s really interesting. I suspect if my husband and I were to have a kid, it would be pretty smart and high-strung, so it’s helpful to read of your experiences.
