This is a charming book about a girl who misses Bibi, her first babysitter, and her navigation of a new normal as she deals with the replacement babysitter, busy working parents, and a best friend who is in Oregon (where it rains all the time — I took a little umbrage with this, because the book is set in August, where rain is a gift).

It’s sweet, but not cloying; I admit I was teary at the end. The narrative voice is clear and funny, and while it’s clever, it’s not so clever that you think, “This isn’t a third grade kid.”

I enjoyed it, and it’ll be fun to read with my daughter when she’s a bit older.
