Parent-teacher conference time
Posted on November 16th, 2011
Parent-teacher conference for Pea this morning! You’re thinking, “What for? She’s only in preschool.” I know, right? But I look forward to these, and have ever since she was a baby.
Usually I’m told what a wonderful, clever child she is and, frankly, I can’t get enough of that kind of thing, because it helps me keep myself together when she’s irrational and obnoxious…which comes around 8 PM, every night.
(I sincerely doubt that at this age, anyone tells parents that their kid isn’t wonderful and/or clever, but I don’t let that spoil my fun. Although maybe I have been told something else, but I refuse to believe it. Also possible!)

I love parent-teacher conferences for the same reason- nothing better than someone else (a supposedly unbiased someone else) telling y ou how awesome your kid is
. And it’s such a nice insight into the part of the day the don’t spend with you.
I think maybe they tell some parents that their kids are really ENERGETIC! And … creative [at finding ways to destroy things]!
They’ve been incredibly important in helping us discover and ameliorate Jack’s learning problems, actually. I wouldn’t have known that his thinking level and receptive language were under par if his preschool teachers hadn’t told me in a conference setting – I don’t hang out with tons of toddlers, so I had no way of knowing how far behind the class he is dragging. They can be gratuitous parent-complimenting sessions (and any preschool teacher worth her salt knows that that’s part of the game!), but they can also be a very important communicative tool! However, I hope for your sake that it’s just the gratuitous compliments for Pea today.
