Opera! Art! Tax refund!
Posted on February 6th, 2012
I’m in my study listening to Cecilia Bartoli and writing (well, now I’m blogging). M is working from home and Pea is watching TV. This never could have happened in the loft: M hates opera and would have sung along with an improvised, possibly rude libretto; M’s phone calls to work would drive me to distraction, and Pea’s TV makes me stabby.
The man who repaired the glass in the condo last week popped by to give me a piece of glass to replace the smashed glass for one of my brass rubbings (the only glass casualty of the move, pleasantly enough). It was so very nice of him, and I was thrilled to be able to hang it on the wall!
I did our taxes, and to our great shock, we’re getting a refund, at least federally (we owe a minimal amount to the state). We usually try to keep things fairly close, but last year was the first in a long time when I haven’t had an income (at all).
There are a few annoyances: I’ve started getting hot flashes (I AM NOT THAT OLD), M is about to do a lot of traveling, and crazy ex-landlord decided to enter the loft and do work on the property before our term ended, which means I have to decide if I really want to pay him a week’s worth of rent for February or not (it’s not due yet; I’m pondering). M thinks we should tell him to stuff it and take it out of our deposit (which we don’t expect to see any of, anyway). I suppose I should just be glad he wasn’t there when I went to leave my keys and garage door opener.
But who cares? Opera! Art! Tax refund! And on top of that, it’s sunny. I’m not complaining.
