Breaking News (not really)
Posted on April 11th, 2012
This is more of a placeholder, really.
- I’m still sick. My body likes to turn every cold/allergy season into a sinus infection: I’m just lucky that way.
- Pea has gotten her first waitlist from the charter lottery (28 of 186 on the waitlist, of over 300 applicants for 13 spots). Four more schools to go. Odds are about the same, so…
- I am terrified I will be the homeschooling Attorney at Large next year. Or the redshirting-my-kid Attorney At Large next year. Although, on reflection, I already kind of am the homeschooling Attorney at Large, and it is not an easy gig.
- This makes me ever so hopeful that M finds a job a long way away from the Portland Public School system, as long as there are better schools.
- Caroline is being tuned. Judging by the fact this is the longest I’ve ever seen a piano tuner work, she was really out of tune — even with herself. My poor, conflicted piano.

You mean you’ll move from Portland just in time for M and I to move TO Portland? Oh, the humanity!
I told him I’m up for an adventure. I said, “Hell, even Guam!” We’ll see. I’d prefer to stay here, unless he finds a job in the UK or Germany!
oy oy oy. Be careful what you wish for. You could do SO much worse than Portland public schools.
That’s probably true. PPS has fallen a long way, though.
What IS it with city schools, in every. single. damned. city?!? St. Louis public schools have been failing since my family moved to the Midwest, when I was in elementary school. The St. Louis region, however, has some of the finest public schools in the nation. Just not in the city. What the hell is that about??!
I don’t really know. It doesn’t make sense to me that there is so much money in Portland for some seriously asinine projects while the schools get screwed. I’d much rather have Pea in a great neighborhood school than do this damn charter lottery. Anyway, it makes no sense to me. Maybe they want us to leave?
