Legal Reading List
Posted on July 3rd, 2012
Years ago, before there was Pea, I read Misdemeanor Man by Dylan Schaffer, which is a well-written, funny novel about the life of a public defender in a city that sounds an awful lot like Oakland.
Last night, I finally got around to reading the sequel: also funny and well-written. They’re fast reads, but when I read the first book, I’d never had a criminal case. Since then, I’d handled enough misdemeanor appearances for other lawyers that it made I Right the Wrongs even better. Must reads for lawyers!
(Oh. The hero in the books is also a very devoted Barry Manilow fan. It totally works.)

Thanks for posting this and reminding me to look for these — I’m taking off the rest of the week and could use some light reading!
More than anyone else I know, you would get a HUGE kick out of these books!
I haven’t been able to read any law/legal books, fiction or otherwise. It just feels like too much law, following me into my relaxation space!
That said, I think I may take the plunge with this book. I read an excerpt and put my head down on my desk to laugh.
They’re so funny. When I’d read the first one I hadn’t practiced for very long and while I liked it, I’m sure I missed a lot. I’m going to go back and reread it now!
Putting that on my reading list.
I just started reading it last night, and so far I’m pleasantly surprised! I think I was anticipating something more along the lines of Christopher Buckley-ish satire, and it isn’t that at all! Since we don’t bbq in the loft, I’ll likely spend the holiday reading, and with pleasure!
