Migraines, bribery, and alpaca
Posted on March 1st, 2013
This week:
- Migraines and back pain. A lot of migraines and back pain.
- Complete inability to go to bed at a decent hour. It’s not insomnia; it’s me refusing to go to bed. Must…write…all…the…things…
- Except migraines make that tough.
- Fights to get Pea to school on time.
- Bribery to get Pea to school on time. (More successful! A smoothie goes a long way.)
- Sitting in coffee shops waiting while Pea is in school…with migraines and back pain.
- Supervising lots of piano practice. (This requires no bribery. She’s very motivated. She also has gone from wanting me on the bench next to her to telling me to sit somewhere else.)
- Making lots of sushi.
- Picking my birthday present, an Eileen Fisher suri/baby alpaca cardigan/coat. (Hey, almost as many slashes than an X-Files fan fic site!)
- Waiting for my birthday present. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.
- Also waiting for next neurology/botox appointment (because last time, it didn’t work as well. I can tell — aside from the migraines — because I can move my forehead).
- Hoping for colder weather next week, because, you know, new alpaca sweater. 64 degrees today…really?
- Waiting for Pea’s parent-teacher conference next week. I am actually looking forward to it, because I’ve decided it will be high comedy. Also, M will be there. Pea’s teacher acts very differently when M is there.
Categories: Not crazy...yet

I’ve been getting a lot of migraines lately – and I started going gluten free and so far it’s helped.
I probably ought to. If nothing else, it’ll force me to eat more fruits and veg. And since lack of sleep is a trigger, maybe I should try going to bed at a decent hour, too.
Bribery plays a huge role in our house too…I don’t know how people get by without it! UGH!
Also, I HATE going to sleep. I have to force myself to go to bed. so I feel you on that one!
I’m glad I’m not the only one! I am so happy to have some quiet time at the end of the day I flat-out refuse to go to bed some nights (this isn’t ever a good idea for me).
My mother bribed me to practice piano for years, a dime for every day when I practiced at least 20 minutes straight through without whining about it. And then suddenly I could actually play real music, and I actually enjoyed practicing and playing for its own sake, and the dimes stopped.
Your mother was clever! I think I’m going to go with a reward system. She responds amazingly well to stickers (which is so weird to me because I never did).
And her teacher is definitely really working with “real” songs (to a five year old). It provides about 100x more motivation than the exercises.
I love alpaca wool and Eileen Fisher and I am very jealous. I’m so sorry about the migraines, though. I hope your next round of Botox works better. Hug!
Thank you! And ebay is your friend. Lots of NWT (usually last year’s stuff, but it’s not like she’s prone to trends).

Also, I’m awake at 2am, so, yeah, there’s that.
I knew you’d get it.
